Sexy Attire Defined

By Nick Radovanovic

A few years ago, an occasion arose which prompted me to text an invitation to a female friend. The invitation was accepted, so I texted her follow-up instructions:

Wear something sexy.

She responded by asking, "Like what, you mean a tube?"

If a woman doesn't know what's sexy, you have no business taking her out for a date. I should have cut off all communication with this individual at once, deleted her number from my cellphone, and moved to another city just to make sure I'd never run into her again. (Being a gentleman and a monumental idiot, I honored the invitation, and I regret it to this day.)

Anyhow, here is a definition of sexy. If you know someone as unabashadly ignorant and unsophisticated as that girl, here's what to tell her:

Something is sexy if it hides as much as possible while simultaneously revealing as much as possible.

This may sound like a contradiction, but bear with me.

Consider a blouse made of see-through material. It covers the torso and the arms, but you can see the brassiere. You can also see freckles. It teases the viwer by hiding everything while revealing everything. Sexy.

Or consider fishnet stockings. Again, the entire leg is covered, but also simultaneously revealed. Sexy, if a little trashy.

A few years ago, assymetric tops were all the rage. These are yet another twist to the formula: one shoulder is covered, while the other is teasingly revealed. Say what you want about them, I find assymetric tops quite sexy.

You could also have a top which does not have a plunging neckline, but instead a cut-out revealing cleavage. Again, everything is covered, but a maximum amount is simultaneously revealed.

Evening dresses are sexy. Why? They cover almost everything from the breasts on down, right down to the toes - from the front. She turns around and the entire back is bare. A maximum amount of skin is covered, yet revealed.

Women in business attire are sometimes thought to be sexy. It depends how closely the clothes adhere to the contours of the body. A business suit itself is far from sexy on a woman, but if it is tight enough to reveal the hourglass manifested by the bulge of the breasts, the tightness of the waist, and the girth of the buttocks, you have something truly sexy because it covers the figure, while simultaneously revealing it.

One of the sexiest dresses is the cheongsam, formerly known as the China dress. It is a dress with a hemline the Puritans would have loved - except that there is a long slit along the side, revealing everything that has been carefully hidden.

Note that, according to my definition of sexy, stark naked is not sexy. It's not sensual nor alluring. It may have a raw sexual power, but sexy it is not. So if you want to turn your partner on and want to look sexy, whatever you do, don't show up in your birthday suit.

I think you make some good points here, Nick. Less is more, or perhaps more is less... but I do think the sexiest looks are looks where the imagination has to fill in the blanks. When I first read your intel, I thought it had nothing to do with me given that I am in my sixties, but now I'm thinking maybe I should come up with an intel about sexiness and seniors. Any suggestions for that one?

In short, leave something for the imagination, eh? Good points, Nick.

Nick, I believe you left the date purposefully, but it was a great attention-getter!
Your definition of sexy is a good one; one that can be accepted by almost anyone as covering the subject nicely (pun intended) while leaving some room for peeks and peaks of imagination (again, intended).

well, it always pays to leave something to the imagination (of men).

was laughing at the descriptions you gave to the invited female friend. what a pity. but you couldnt entirely blame her. some people don't really know what sexy means. it can also be subjective. but for most men, your definition of sexy is what it is.

thumbs up.

I agree that sexy is not naked.
